SMS
From Shareideas
SMS (Short Message Service) is the standard text messaging technology used on mobile phones. It is commonly referred to as "text messaging" or "texting". You can send text messages from one mobile phone to another, if you know the receiver's number. It is very simple to use and popular among young people around the world.
Text messages are not used only for person-to-person communication. SMS can be used for setting up services where the request of information or data is done with SMS. Getting settings for your phone or to check the balance of a pre-paid card often happens by sending a request via SMS to the operator.
SMS allows the simultaneous distribution of one message to multiple recipients, in the same way that multiple recipients can be copied on an email. This makes it possible tool for group communication. SMS is often used to inform people when they are otherwise hard to reach but the situation requires urgent action. These can be a case of emergency or need of immediate action.
