The World Wide Web ("WWW" or simply the "Web") is a system of interlinked, hypertext documents that runs over the Internet. With a Web browser, a user views Web pages that may contain text, images, and other multimedia and navigates between them using hyperlinks. The Web was created around 1990 by the Englishman Tim Berners-Lee and the Belgian Robert Cailliau working at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.

The web today is not only a collection of interlinked hypertext documents but also a platform for services, applications and rich media. The most common web applications are web-based email service, online discussions forums, blogs, wikis and online communities. Many things that are traditionally done with PC software can nowadays be done with web-based software, including word processing and spreadsheets. Rich media – audio, online radios and video – services are one of the fastest growing sector in the web.
