How to take photos by fixing your imaging phone to a telescope to capture close-up images
From Shareideas
Phonescoping is a technique used for capturing close-up photos by fixing your imaging phone to a telescope.
[edit]
What do you need to get started:
- A mobilephone with an integrated camera
- A spotting scope with a stabile tripod
- An adapter to connect your mobile to the scope
- PC, software and other additional equipment to get pictures from your mobile to your PC
- Graphics sw and noise reducing sw
Digiscoping vs. phonescoping:
- You always carry your mobile with you
- A mobile camera is simple to use, no complex adjustments needed
- Quality of the pictures is good enough to use in internet or other electronic media
- You can immediately send your shot to your friends all around the world
[edit]
In practice:
- Find a bird in the field with your scope's view.
- Focus the object sharp.
- Fit your mobile firmly to the ocular.
- Refocus using the lcd-display of your mobile.
- Shoot the first photo using the capture key.
- Shoot more pictures using the timer or sequence mode.
- If the object is stabile, check the focusing between shots.
- Take as many pictures as possible to ensure your success in getting superfine results.
How to process pictures:
I use two methods, depending on the use of the picture as documentation purposes:
- Identification purposes
- Pictures on my web-site
- If picture will be used as part of identification, I don“t process it at all, except for balancing brightness (original will be attached)
- Pictures in my web-pages are processed using Photoshop and noise redusing sw with out ANY LIMITS! I process pictures until I am satisfied with the results
- Noise reduction sw has been a very useful tool
