Bluetooth is a technology for sending data wirelessly from one Bluetooth-enabled device to another, over short distances. Bluetooth is regularly specified in medium to high-end mobile phones. You can send your media – including pictures, video and/or audio clips, or software - to other mobile phones, to a PC, printer or any other piece of equipment with Bluetooth included. Different Bluetooth profiles allow different types of transmission - for example, A2DP (advanced audio distribution profile) allows the transmission of high quality stereo audio, whilst AVRCP (advanced remote control profile) allows wireless control of one Bluetooth device by another.

With mobile phones, which tend to include a Class 3 Bluetooth chip, Bluetooth has a range of about 10 meters. You can also set-up Bluetooth hotspots that enable people to access data when visiting a specific place. A network using Bluetooth as the communications protocol is known as a "piconet". For example, health clinics could provide educational games or other materials for visitors via Bluetooth.
