EDGE stands for Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE). Despite the complicated acronym, EDGE is simply an addition to GSM mobile networks that provides a faster connection. EDGE has been introduced into GSM networks around the world since 2003. Phones and devices need a built in EDGE receiver and there are hundreds of compatible phones available today.
EDGE can be used to make an Internet connection faster, or improve the speed it takes to send pictures and attachments from one destination to another. EDGE is being used in the Americas, Africa, Asia and Europe.
